Craniosacral Therapy (CST) - Everyone's Massage Therapy Services

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

Craniosacral therapy (CST) was developed by Dr. John E. Upledger in the 1970s and is a branch of osteopathy. Recent research from the American Cancer Society shows that CST can relieve symptoms of stress and tension. Today, it is widely used to treat migraines, chronic neck and back pain, Autism, orthopedic issues, motor and coordination problems, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic fatigue, learning disabilities, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, and much more.

The Many Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy’s aim is to restore the natural position of bones which can contribute to muscle problems and pain associated with those issues. With as many as 28 million Americans suffering from migraines and other severe headaches, CST provides welcomed relief.

Another positive attribute of CST is how it works with the body’s natural healing processes. Practiced by using a gentle touch no greater than approximately 5 grams, Craniosacral therapy releases restrictions in the craniosacral system, which in turn improves the nervous system functions. This is part of what makes CST such a great option for people who are new to bodywork.  It also enhances the craniosacral system which consists of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that protects and surrounds the brain and spinal cord. By working with the body, rather than against it, CST harnesses the internal power and nourishes it from the outside in.

Craniosacral Therapy is gentle enough to relieve daily stress and effective enough to go so far as to enhance your performance. It is used as a preventative measure to increase your defense against disease and is an alternative treatment for a diverse range of medical issues and chronic pain.

What to Expect from Treatment

The initial treatment lasts about 75 minutes, however, subsequent sessions may be longer or shorter based on your individual needs. Depending on what issue you may be treating, you may only need one session for three weeks or more sessions for consecutive weeks. However, you should expect the quality of care to be light enough to prevent access pain or soreness in the days following.

CST is an excellent therapy option for migraines, trauma, brain injuries and as a preventative measure for Alzheimer’s and many other illnesses. Explore this option if you’d simply like to reduce chronic pain or improve your daily performance.
